There’s another, more underappreciated, reason for Avatar’s success however. The animation is lush and beautiful, the characters are richly-realized and human, and the action is relentless and thrilling, never giving in to the puritan notions of what “children’s entertainment” can or cannot depict. Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbenderis a superb television show for many reasons.
